Black rook in two dimensions, first belonging to F. Philador, who had used it in defense of His Majesty when, upon seeing a warrior advancing toward the eighth rank in the final throes of the end game, had put his body in the line of attack. Throwing the rook forward to sixth, Philador forced the enemy warrior to advance upon His Majesty such that, upon retreating the rook to first, Philador could use the rook to attack repeatedly the enemy king until a draw was made. In a battle which could have seen His Majesty fallen, such a draw was made.

The rook had been previously  loaned to B. Franklin, American ambassador to France.
